Looking up a CVC number in the PCI environment





Update 28-08-2017: Bookings will no longer contain the CVC code. For PCI compliancy and security reasons, we are no longer allowed to ask guests for their CVC code. In case a CVC code is needed on your credit card terminal when you want to charge a no-show or cancellation, we recommend contacting your credit card terminal provider to switch CVC off on your terminal.





Card details are now stored on a PCI compliant server from an external partner. Read more about this change in the article Security enhancement: Credit cards are safely stored or Viewing credit card details. Most hotels don't need the Card Verification Code (CVC) of the credit card.


Do not ask guests for their CVC
We highly discourage asking your guests for the CVC code, for the following reasons:

  • It lowers conversion of bookings
  • CVC codes are only intended for online payment charges, not for POS-terminal charges
  • Your hotel can be held responsible for leaks

If you are unable to make charges via your the card machine at the Reception without a CVC code, we recommend asking your POS-terminal provider for help, as a CVC code is only intended for online payments. If your hotel still requires the CVC code, see CVC Request Form.

When is the CVC code visible?
The CVC code is visible in the PCI environment only once if your hotel has switched on the CVC code.


Note If you see the CVC code, make sure you process this code immediately, as the code will only be displayed once.
